There are very few people that would turn down an opportunity to purchase their own private island. The privacy and sheer extravagance that comes with owning a private island simply cannot be duplicated by any other type of real estate. Unfortunately, the possibility of purchasing such a piece of property is only a dream to all but the wealthiest among us.
It is important to remember that not all island real estate is found in tropical locations. Island properties are commonly sold all over the world, including Canada, Alaska, Northern Europe, and even in locations that are nowhere near the ocean (in the case of those islands found in rivers and lakes). However, if a warm climate and a tropical lifestyle is what you are after, then there is no substitute for the tropical zone.
On average, one can expect to pay several million dollars for even a small piece of island real estate. And of course, these costs are just for the property itself, and do not include any costs associated with building a home, generating electricity, development of any kind. Furthermore, in order to even access these islands one must purchase a boat, which only further increases the expenses.
