If you are looking to buy or sell a home, a top-notch real estate agent can be invaluable. Their primary job is to help put buyers in touch with sellers and to help both parties navigate the sea of paperwork and regulations that are inherent in these transactions. Realtors are generally available in just about every part of the country.

It is recommended that one do some research before settling on any one real estate agent. Buying or selling a home will eventually involve a great deal of money, and as such one should take great care in choosing the intermediary for the transaction. One should always ask for references and if possible, talk with former clients as well. One should also be wary of any agent that cannot provide such references.

There is often a debate as to which is best, a large real estate company, or a small, independent real estate agent, as there are advantages to both. With smaller agencies one often gets more personalized attention, but the available listings are often not as plentiful. Larger firms usually have more listings from which to choose, but often have higher commissions as well.
